Come up with a healthy gaming idea for Finns!
What kind of game would make exercise, good dietary habits and a healthy lifestyle a hit with Finns? Could certain illnesses be prevented and health promoted by an electronic game or easy-to-use application?
Over 100 competitors entered Sitra’s Gesundheit 2013 health game competition. The purpose was to generate fun and addictive Finnish games and apps based around health issues. Such a game, or an idea for a game, had to be related to health education, health promotion or well-being. The game could be either browser or mobile-based.
The competition had two categories:
- Ideas. In this category, the best health-related idea for a game will be chosen. No account will be taken of the quality of technical implementation, and no practical implementation is required.
The first prize will be EUR 15,000, the second prize EUR 5,000 and the third prize EUR 2,000. In addition, the winner will be given the opportunity to attend a health-sector conference Health 2.0 in Silicon Valley, courtesy of Sitra. - Games. In this category, the best health-related mobile-based or browser-based game or app will be selected. The first prize will be EUR 25,000, the second prize EUR 3,000 and the third prize EUR 1,000. In addition, the winner will have the opportunity to participate in the health-sector conference Health 2.0 in Silicon Valley, courtesy of Sitra.
The winners of each category will also have the chance to obtain capital investment for their firms, if commercial opportunities exist for the game in question.
Altogether 25 entries were made for the Games category, and 112 to the Ideas category. Winners were Herring, which makes hearing tests more fun, and Ravintoguru, which sets the player into the boots of a nutritional therapist. The winners were selected by a broad-based jury consisting of active citizens, researchers and promoters of well-being, as well as developers from the technology and game sectors.
