Is it possible for you to cut your carbon footprint in half and improve your quality of life? Oh yes. The choices you make – how you live, eat and move – have a direct impact on the environment. Everything you do, no matter how big or small, helps.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Nearly 70% of Finland’s greenhouse gas emissions are caused by us as individuals and our lifestyles. They come from how we live, travel and eat and from what we buy. Daily activities and choices also allow us to reduce emissions. This website offers 100 ways to live a good life within the limits of the earth’s carrying capacity. These choices can not only improve our quality of life but can also reduce the environmental impacts of daily life.
We’ve calculated the environmental impact of each choice. We have also calculated the potential impact should one million Finns make the same choices – because there’s strength in numbers. The calculation and specification of the carbon and material footprints for all the examples was carried out by D-mat oy, a company that specialises in carbon footprint calculations. Demos Helsinki produced this list of 100 choices on the basis of a proposal from Sitra.
Finland is committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, the target of which is to make the world a better place for all of us. The Society’s Commitment to Sustainable Development challenge was created to realise this target. Sitra is committed to building a resource-wise and carbon-neutral society. The lifestyletest and One hundred smart ways to live a sustainable life are a concrete example of what can be done to promote responsible consumption and support lifestyles that respect nature’s carrying capacity.
