Soundscape: Laughter from the audience, a conversation between a TV show host and a woman
TV SHOW HOST: Welcome back. You’re watching the Retro Channel and this is The Dating Game, the longest-running dating show in Finland! We’re starting a new round and we have a row of beautiful ladies waiting for Mr. X. Miss A, please give us a brief introduction.
MISS A: Hi. My name is Anne and I’m looking for a strong man who will sweep me off my feet and make me laugh. I like baking sourdough bread and cuddling up to watch films.
TV SHOW HOST: Let’s start with a bit of a radical question. Miss A, how do you feel about the fact that Mr. X was a sugar user when he was young?
MISS A: I’ve had a few minutes to think about it and I am prepared to be understanding about a history of sugar use. After all, we all have a past.
TV SHOW HOST: Are you saying you have a shadowy past as well?
MISS A: Well, nothing quite that radical! But I have eaten the occasional fruit — even bananas.
TV SHOW HOST: Right. Of course, our policy on this show and channel is to refrain from advertising products that contain sugar and we usually don’t talk about people who eat sugar. It’s just easier to stay away from that stuff altogether. Then again, Mr. X has clearly stated that he regrets his past sugar use and that he has severed all of his ties with that world. Maybe having a background with a few rough edges can also make a man more interesting, or what do you think?
MISS A: It might! I do like having an element of danger in a relationship.
TV SHOW HOST: Let’s move on to Miss B.
