This summer Sitra and three Finnish cities are attending Sweden’s biggest event for political decision-makers, Almedalsveckan. The cities of Turku, Vaasa and Espoo will be joining us on this journey together with other cooperation partners, as we travel carbon-free with a wooden sailing ship.
This year the event is focusing on cities, with viewpoints from innovations to investments and from urban development to international financing. The event will be highlighting the climate actions of Nordic cities and showing the whole world, why the aim should be high at the Paris negotiations. The theme is ”Cities and mayors leading the new climate economy – The Nordic road to Paris and beyond”.
The global importance of cities as a driver of change is huge, as the economy and information flow are constantly minimising the importance of countries. Cities play an important role in forming the operating environment of businesses on the way towards carbon neutrality, which is a big but unavoidable global transition.
