”Most Likely To Succeed is the best film ever done on the topic of school — both its past and its future.”

You are warmly welcome to Most Likely To Succeed (2015) documentary’s premiere in Finland Thursday March 17 and to spend an evening with the topic of future education. Greg Whiteley’s Most Likely To Succeed is a compelling film about schools, education and their direction in the complex societies we live in. The documentary has gained success for example in Sundance – and Tribeca film festivals.

Most Likely to Succeed offers an inspiring look at what schools could be – if we have the vision and courage not just to reform, but transform them. The documentary tells the story of how the education system developed in the USA and what it has become today as it struggles to cope with the demands of a rapidly changing society. In developed western countries education does not guarantee success as it once did. But rather than surrounding students in the innovation we see outside of schools, the way we teach and learn remains strikingly similar to previous generations. After showcasing these challenges, the documentary tells the story of High Tech High schools in California. In High Tech High teaching and learning are organized to support every student’s curiosity through personalization, adult world connection, common intellectual mission, and teacher as designer. Here, students and teachers together are empowered to shape learning to prepare them for a changing world.

This Movie night is a great chance to meet other education developers because we invite people interested in future education from different sectors and organizations in the society.

After the documentary we will host a panel discussion where one of the founders of High Tech High Rob Riordan, Jari Salminen from University of Helsinki, teacher and individualized learning developer Pekka Peura from Martinlaakso High school, Head of Curriculum Development and Counsellor of Education Irmeli Halinen and Harold Glasser from Western Michigan University will share their thoughts after seeing the documentary and have discussions with the audience. The language used in the event is English and the event is free of charge.
