Panel discussion on the future of the European Single Market

The European Single Market is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The Single Market, one of the greatest achievements of the European integration, continues to deliver numerous benefits to European citizens, businesses and Member States' economies.

The competitiveness and resilience of the EU’s economy depend greatly on the effective functioning of the Single Market, where goods, services, people and capital can move freely across borders.

But how should the Single Market be developed into the future? How do we strike the right balance between competition and industrial policy? How can the Single Market contribute to the EU’s economic security?

The European Council, i.e. the summit of EU’s Heads of State or Government, has invited Mr. Enrico Letta, President of the Jacques Delors Institute and former Prime Minister of Italy, to draw up a High-Level report on the future of the European Single Market. The report will be presented to the European Council in March 2024.
