TEHDAS, the joint action Towards the European Health Data Space, advances more extensive use of health data across Europe. The project supports the European Commission’s aim in creating a harmonised internal market for health data. Our work has provided elements to the European Commission’s legislative proposal on the health data space and will continue to support further work related to the proposal.
We gathered stakeholders from academia, business, public sector and NGOs to the Stakeholder forum on 14 June 2022 in Helsinki, Finland and online.
The forum focused on the current developments of the European Health Data Space. We learned about the TEHDAS results related to barriers and enablers of health data use, data quality and infrastructure as well as citizens’ views on sharing health data. In addition to TEHDAS partners, a broad range of stakeholders shared their views.
The discussion highlighted individuals’ right to their data, trust as an enabler of data sharing and use, the importance of ensuring data quality and the future of the EU’s health policy. A main message of the European health data stakeholders is that to reap the full benefits of wider health data sharing and use, people’s trust and communication on the advantages of data use are needed.
The forum was an official pre-event of HIMSS European Health Conference which took place on 14-16 June 2022. The conference was organised within the framework of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
