The words smart and clean inspire different kinds of associations in people. This partnership project involves a new approach to co-operation across boundaries, between cities, companies and the state. Over the next few years, the Helsinki capital region plans to engage in major ventures and to develop operating models aimed at generating new business and jobs. These major projects are related to areas such as transport, water supply and energy efficiency. The aim is to create a distinctive new operating model for the capital region: how do you make the capital region a world-class reference area for smart and clean solutions?

The following organisations are involved in the Smart & Clean partnership project alongside Sitra, Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa: Uusimaa Regional Council, the Ministry of Employment and the Economy, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, and the Climate Leadership Council. The work is being co-ordinated by Sitra and Greater Helsinki Promotion.

The first blog in our new series SmartClean has now been published. The series aims to answer questions on what is smart and clean by recounting the Smart & Clean partnership project in our partners’ own words. We hope this series, which will run until the autumn, will also entice new partners to join the partnership.
