Aarni Pursiainen

Portfolio manager, Investments

Who?

Aarni Pursiainen is Sitra’s portfolio manager for real assets. Aarni manages real estate, infrastructure and forestry investments, which account for around 20% of Sitra’s investment assets. He works in close cooperation with the rest of the investment team, considering the threats and opportunities in the investment environment at any given time.

What?

Aarni has extensive experience in the investment market. His career started in the mid-90s at Hanken, where he worked as a researcher and teacher until he obtained his PhD in finance in 1999. Since then, his roles have varied, and Aarni has experience both as an investor in institutions and as an asset manager in a bank or fund management company. Impact investments that can improve the environment or society are of particular interest to Aarni.

What else?

Water has always been an important element for Aarni. His goal is to swim at least twice a week in the indoor pool, or in the summer at the outdoor swimming pool in Leppävaara – which is a great place, by the way. In summer, Aarni is also the number one enemy of the pike and once caught a ten-pounder!
