Wijkman is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry and the World Academy of Art & Science. He is also member of the Board of the Stockholm Resilience Centre, the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics in Lund, the Tällberg Foundation, Chairman of Climate-KIC and Chairman of the Swedish Recycling Industries’ Association.
As member of the European Parliament between 1999 and 2009, Wijkman focused on issues related to climate change, energy policy, environment and health, development co-operation and humanitarian affairs. Wijkman was the European Parliament’s rapporteur on a number of important issues, including HIV/Aids Prevention, the Development Cooperation Budget, Renewable Energy in Developing Countries, the Energy Efficiency Action Plan, Integrated Product Policy, Climate Change Mitigation and Sustainability Criteria for Biofuels. During his tenure, Wijkman was awarded the “Achiever of the Year” honour by the European Parliament’s Parliament Magazine (2005). He also received a special award from EREF, the European Renewable Energies Federation, for his efforts to promote renewable energy within the EU.
Anders Wijkman has been an acting member of Sitra’s international advisory panel since 2017.
