Werner Schmidt has been working on project, policy and sector advisory work for more than 25 years.
He joined the European Investment Bank in its Project Directorate, where he was in charge of the appraisal and monitoring of projects in the agribusiness, fisheries and forestry sector. Later he was team leader in Operations Evaluation and in charge of the Quality Management/Coordination Division within the Projects Directorate. He then became the Director of the Environmental and Sustainable Territorial Development Department within the Projects Directorate. The Department is in charge of the techno-economic appraisal of investment projects in several sectors. Prior to joining the EIB Werner worked inter alia for the World Bank, the European Commission and the German bilateral technical assistance organization in Albania, Pakistan, Russia, Caucasus and Central Asia.
