Help us create the future of the smart forest!

Help us discover how we can move beyond resource extraction to a new future for forest services. In addition to present and future value-added products, what goods and services can a smart forest provide? What is the role of technology (and the internet of things) in reinventing a forest industry for the future?

Sitra is inviting ideas for new solutions that combine elements of the internet of things (IoT) with the forest industry. We are looking for IoT solutions that can most effectively add value to forest products and services. Ideas can be related to the following categories: design, forestry, logistics, products and services, technologies or other ideas.

The call for ideas ended on 22 October 2015 at 08:00 (EET). Teams and ideas could also be formed and developed at a Smart Forest Hackday event on 19 October 2015. Teams can collect feedback on their ideas by using the provided online tool until the deadline.

The best ideas will be rewarded and teams will receive implementation support from Sitra specialists and partners, visibility at the CEPI European Paper Week in Brussels and the Sitra sessions at the Slush 2015 start-up event in Helsinki in November, access to co-creation sessions at Sitra in the Spring of 2016 and monetary prizes of 3000 euros for the winner, 2000 euros for the runner-up and 1000 euros for the third best idea.

Memebers of the jury are: Mari Pantsar, Director, Sitra;  Jyrki Alkio, Editor-in-chief, Tekniikka & Talous; Vivek Goyal, Senior Investment Analyst, Nokia Growth Partners; Martti Mustajärvi, Principal Technologist, Nokia; Jouni Punnonen, Energy Director, Finnish Forest Industries Federation and Petri Vasara, Global Practice Leader, Pöyry Management Consulting.

You can find the instructions and rules for the invitation here.
